National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) conducts an entrance examination, known as NIFT, at the national level for programs in Design, Fashion Management, and Fashion Technology. The entrance examination consists of assessments, i.e., GAT (General Ability Test) and CAT (Creative Ability Test). After the written examination, all qualified B.Des candidates are required to take part in a Situation Test, while the qualified postgraduate candidates (MFM, MDes, MFTech) will be invited for a Personal Interview (PI). B.F.Tech admission is based only on the scores from the GAT.

Candidates will be able to confirm their responses, estimate how many they got correct, and calculate their expected marks with the help of the answer key. A challenge facility will also be provided for candidates who wish to raise objections.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) will enable the candidates to object in the third week of February 2026, giving the candidates a window to challenge the provisional answer key. Candidates will have to pay a non-refundable fee of approximately ₹200 per challenge for each objection as it is submitted. After review of all challenges, a final NIFT 2026 answer key will be issued.
How to Download the NIFT 2026 Answer Key
To get started, follow the process to access the answer key:
Go to the official NTA NIFT admission portal.
Click the answer key link.
Sign in with your Roll Number, Program Name, Date of Birth, and Question Booklet Number.
Download the NIFT answer key once you have logged in.
Candidates’ recorded responses and the test booklet will be available for download alongside the answer key. NTA will make these available through the admission portal for NIFT 2026. Accessing the test booklet and recorded responses will enable candidates to compare their answers, and will provide a more robust way of checking performance.
The results for NIFT 2026 Stage 1 entrance examination will probably be announced in the last week of April, 2026. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will declare results online, through the official NTA NIFT admission portal. Candidates will not be sent the scorecard in hard copy. It must be noted that Stage 1 written examination scores are only used to qualify candidates for the next stage of admission and will not be used in the final admission process.
The final results for NIFT 2026 (Stage 2 for both UG and PG programmes) are expected to be published in the last week of June, 2026. The scheduling and counselling registration for qualified candidates will be released following the declaration of final results.
How to Check NIFT 2026 Result
Visit the official result link on the NTA NIFT portal.
Log in with your application number and date of birth.
Once you have signed in, your result will display on the screen.
Download and print the scorecard to keep for future reference.
According to NIFT, the result/scorecard will include details around:
Sectional and overall scores
Qualifying status
Candidates who pass Stage 1 will be allowed to sit for a Situation Test or Personal Interview against a particular programme.
Candidates who have been shortlisted from the written examination are required to take the Situation Test (B.Des) or Personal Interview (PG courses).
The NTA is also likely to make the NIFT 2026 Toppers List available alongside the results as well as the detailed statistics of the NIFT 2026 exam. If they do so, it can include the name of the topper, their application number and the state of eligibility. NTA may also provide detailed statistics, including the total number of candidates registered, appeared or qualified and gender based statistics for the NIFT 2026 examination.
National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) will initiate the NIFT 2026 counselling after the final NIFTEE results are announced. The reporting schedule is expected to be conducted from June to July 2026, during which its expected three regular seat allotment rounds and a Spot Counselling round will take place.
Candidates eligible for reporting must have obtained a valid rank on the Common Merit Rank (CMR) list and should register to report for counselling on the official NIFT portal in the last week of June 2026.
NIFT will oversee centralized counselling for admission to its 19 campuses nationwide. Only candidates who pass the NIFT 2026 entrance exam can participate in the counselling process. The counselling process will take place in three major allotment rounds, and any unfilled seats after the third round will be allotted in a Spot Counselling round.
Qualified candidates will complete an online registration form, making choices of program and institute in preferred order. Registration and document uploading for Round 1 and choice filling and locking will likely take place in the last week of June, 2026.
The allotment of seats will depend on the merit rank and preferences submitted by candidates. After the allotment of a seat, if a candidate does not pay the seat acceptance fee by the stipulated date, the allotted seat will be cancelled and the seat will be offered to the next candidate in the merit list. After the regular rounds have finished, the Spot round will open for fresh registrations and the allotment of seats will be on the basis of first come and first served.
In addition to the NIFT campuses that are involved, other non-NIFT institutions may also use NIFT 2026 scores for establishing merit for their own admissions. For instance, the World University of Design (WUD) is expected to use NIFT merit ranks for admission into some undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
It should be noted that NTA has no role in determining other non-NIFT programs that will use the score. NTA's only responsibilities are to conduct the NIFT 2026 exam and release the exam results. The final NIFT score will be for counselling and seat allotment purposes only.
NIFT 2026 cut-off will be announced by the National Institute of Fashion Technology along with the results of the written exam. The cut-off will be announced for each category and will indicate the score or rank a candidate must get to qualify. Applicants will be required to check their qualifying status via the result portal. Those whose written exam scores meet or exceed the cut-off for that category will be eligible for the next stage, whether it be the Situation Test or Personal Interview.
Please keep in mind that the qualifying cut-off for NIFT 2026, to move onto stage two, is separate from the cut-off for admission.
How NIFT 2026 Admission Cut-off Will Be Determined
The final admission cut-off will be calculated post completion of the merit list and will consider:
The total number of applicants that took the exam
Provisions for seat by category
The total number of candidates applying
Candidates admission category
Cut off trends from previous years
