UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) is a national level examination, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), for eligibility for the Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges. UGC NET is conducted twice a year. UGC NET has two papers i.e., Paper I is for teaching and research aptitude and Paper II is for subject-wise knowledge. UGC NET 2025 eligibility criteria are defined based on age limit, educational qualification, and category-wise relaxations. Check the table below for UGC NET eligibility criteria 2025:

UGC NET Syllabus for 2025 has been released by the University Grants Commission (UGC). There are two modes of the examination, Paper I and Paper II. Although Paper I has a common syllabus applicable to all, Paper II is subject specific for 85 different subjects in total. While applying, candidates should choose their Paper II subject.

UGC NET Marks for PhD Admission
UGC NET results are classified into three categories:
Category 1: Candidates qualifying with JRF become eligible for Junior Research Fellowship, Assistant Professorship, and PhD enrollment.
Category 2: Candidates qualifying NET are eligible for Assistant Professorship and PhD admission.
Category 3: Candidates may be considered for PhD seats based on their NET marks.
Note: Candidates falling under Categories 2 and 3 must appear for a university-level interview. The final selection typically includes 70% weightage to NET score and 30% to the interview.
UGC NET Certificate 2025
UGC NET June 2025 certificate is available for download on the official website. If candidates face issues accessing the certificate, they may contact the authorities at ugcnet@nta.ac.in or ecertificate@nta.ac.in. The June 2025 results were published on July 21, 2025.
UGC NET cut-off for December 2025 will be released along with the result. The cut-off will be available category-wise, paper-wise, and subject-wise for all 85 subjects. Candidates can check and download the cut-off by:

UGC NET selection process commences once the official notification has been released, which contains comprehensive details including exam dates, eligibility criteria, exam pattern, syllabus, and important instructions. Various stages will be included in the recruitment process and these stages are mentioned below:
1. Completing the UGC NET Application Form
The registration process will begin when the application form will be available after which eligible candidates need to visit the official website to complete the registration online by filling in their detail and then complying with the instructions to upload the necessary documents and pay the application fee, to finish the registration process.
2. Downloading of the Admit Card
Once the registration process has been successfully completed for UGC NET, NTA will issue the UGC NET admit card approximately one week before the exam. Candidates will be required to log on to their registered accounts and download their admit card. The admit card is an essential requirement to sit for the exam.
3. Appearing for the UGC NET Exam
Once the candidate has successfully completed the registration process, they must appear for the exam, which is in the form of a computer-based exam comprising PAPER I and PAPER II. Both papers will be of an objective-type nature and will need to be written in a total of three hours of combined duration.
4. Checking the Results of UGC NET
The National Testing Agency releases the results for UGC NET examinations in an online format, as per the scheduled timeline. The result will show the candidate's roll number and qualification status. Status will indicate whether the candidate is qualified for Assistant Professorship, Junior Research Fellowship, or not qualified.
Candidates appearing for UGC NET also have the option to prepare for other competitive examinations that coincide with the syllabi. A few examples of competitive examinations are:
UPSC (IAS/IFS/IES, etc.)
Postgraduate candidates preparing for UPSC can also apply for UGC NET in their particular subject. The preparation for the subject helps to comprehend much of the syllabus for both subjects. For instance, should a candidate who has completed a master's degree in Economics prepares to take both UPSC and NET examinations, many overlaps occur within the content.
Teaching Examinations (CTET, State TET, etc.)
The CTET examinations, and the State TET examinations include many of the same syllabus to UGC NET. Candidates preparing for these examinations will be able to study and prepare for these examinations at the same time with a mindful approach to planning.
UGC NET December 2025 session application form was released along with the official notification. Candidates could register and submit their forms from October 7 to November 7 (until 11:50 PM). The complete online application procedure is explained below:
