XAT Counseling 2026: XLRI GD-PI Dates, Cutoffs & Process

XAT Counseling 2026 is the selection process after XAT exam. XLRI Jamshedpur conducts the XAT. Over 250 colleges accept XAT scores for MBA/PGDM admission. 3. Candidate Shortlisting: Candidates who meet the cutoff are shortlisted. Shortlisting is for the second stage, the interview process. Shortlisted candidates receive official communication.

Stage 2: Interview and Final Assessment

1. GD/PI/WAT: Short-listed candidates have to attend the Group Discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI), and Written Ability Test (WAT).

• The WAT is usually concerned with some socio-economic or sometimes abstract topics.

• The PI judges clarity of thought and motivation.

2. Final Merit List: The final admission is on the basis of a composite score. The highest weightage is given to the score of the XAT.

Separate applications are mandatory for all XAT-accepting institutes. Candidates should pay the specific program application fees.

The final admission decision relies on a weighted average score. Performance in the XAT exam is the most important factor. The GD and PI performance also holds significant weight.

XLRI offers two primary PGDM programs. Both programs have high standards. The sectional cutoff requirement varies by program.

• PGDM-BM (Business Management): This program is highly competitive. It requires a higher percentile in the Quantitative Aptitude (QA) section. The focus is on analytical and quantitative skills.

• PGDM-HRM (Human Resource Management): This program emphasizes Verbal and Logical Ability (VALR). The sectional cutoff for VALR is usually highest for HRM.

Expected Sectional XAT Cutoffs for XLRI (2026)

Meeting both the sectional and overall cutoff is mandatory for shortlisting.

The GD, PI, and WAT stages assess communication and leadership skills. Careful preparation is the key to success in XAT Counseling.

• Group Discussion (GD): Aspirants must train themselves to be clear and logical in their presentations. These qualities, when combined with active listening and constructive arguments, are appreciated. The topics discussed in a GD are generally based on current affairs/business ethics.

• Personal Interview (PI): Basic questions are raised regarding academic background and future aspirations. Deep knowledge of the chosen XLRI program is expected. For work experience, articulate it with some definite achievements. XAT GD PI Preparation should cultivate personality based on honesty and self-awareness.

• Written Ability Test (WAT): The candidates are tested for their ability to structure arguments within narrow confines of time. They should, therefore, practice writing well-structured and reasoned essays within limits of time.

The documents need to be compiled and carried for verification by the candidate. XAT GD PI WAT center will require physical verification of all application documents.

• XAT 2026 Admit Card: The candidate has to carry it in original on examination day.

• XAT 2026 Scorecard: To be issued officially.

• Academic Record: 10th & 12th certificates and mark sheets. 

• Graduation Documents: Mark sheets of all semesters/years and degree certificate. Provisional certificate or college letter required for final-year students. 

• Experience Letter: Appointment letter, relieving letter, and payslips. Only applicable for full-time work post-graduation. 

• Identity: Aadhaar card, passport, or voter ID, whichever one is valid. 

• Category Certificate: Valid SC/ST/PwD certificate wherever applicable. 

• Photographs: 4-6 recent passport-size color photographs.

Original documents must be carried for the verification process.

The PGDM-BM program is XLRI's flagship offering. The overall cutoff is the highest among all programs.

XAT Cut Off 2026: PGDM-HRM

The PGDM-HRM program is highly respected, particularly for HR careers. The overall cutoff is marginally lower than PGDM-BM.

The difference in cutoffs promotes academic and gender diversity.

XAT Cutoff is the gateway to many other top-ranked B-schools. Candidates should apply to multiple institutes to maximize their chances.

These institutes release their cutoffs individually based on their own criteria. They conduct separate GD-PI processes.
