Factors Affecting JoSAA Cutoffs 2026
The factors that might affect the JoSAA cutoffs are:
Candidates selected for a seat allocation by JoSAA 2026 need to pay the Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) as a mark of their acceptance of the seat. Verification of documents can be done only when the Seat Acceptance Fee is successfully paid. The Seat Acceptance Fee is to be paid in that particular round where the candidate gets the first allotment of a seat. Failure to do so within the stipulated time limit will lead to the candidate being treated as one who rejects the seat allotted to him/her.
| Category | Seat Acceptance Fee |
| SC, ST, GEN-PwD, GEN-EWS-PwD, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC-PwD, ST-PwD | INR 15,000 |
| All Other Candidates | INR 30,000 |
Payment Modes: Debit Card, Credit Card, UPI, Net Banking, or SBI E-Challan.
After the completion of the final JoSAA counselling round, candidates holding a provisionally allotted seat in the NIT+ System must pay the Partial Admission Fee (PAF). Non-payment of the PAF will result in cancellation of the allotted seat.
| Category | Partial Admission Fee |
| SC, ST, GEN-PwD, GEN-EWS-PwD, OBC-NCL-PwD, SC-PwD, ST-PwD | INR 20,000 |
| All Other Candidates | INR 45,000 |
Payment Methods: Payment of PAF through the Debit Card, Credit Card, UPI, or Net Banking method can be done by the candidates via online mode. Besides this, PAF can also be paid offline through the SBI E-Challan generated through the JoSAA website. It is necessary to pay both SAF and PAF in time to retain the allotted seat.
Students allotted seats through JoSAA 2026 will have to upload their documents at the JoSAA website for the process of online verification. Documents required for admissions to IITs and admissions to NIT+ System (NITs/IIITs/IIEST/GFTIs) are not exactly the same.
Candidates should upload the following documents:
Candidates allotted seats in IITs must upload:
While verifying the documents of candidates, officials may ask certain questions to the candidates using the JoSAA website. Candidates need to answer the queries within the stipulated time period and upload the necessary documents.
A different message will not be sent through email or SMS in any case. As such, the candidates need to log in regularly to the JoSAA website. Not answering a particular query can result in the cancellation of their allotted seat.
Important Guidelines
In case any discrepancy arises while verifying, the candidate needs to upload the modified documents within the stipulated time frame. Candidates who do not sort out any discrepancy and respond to verification queries are marked as “Not Reported,” and their reserved seat is withdrawn.
For IIT Admissions
After the JoSAA counselling process is over, those students who have got a seat at an IIT will have to appear personally at the respective IIT campus for completing the procedure of admission. There might be a need for rechecking the documents again. In addition, they are required to participate in the orientation program and join the class as per the schedule released by JoSAA.
For NIT+ System Admissions
Students allocated seats at NITs, IIITs, IIEST Shibpur, and other GFTIs are expected to join their respective institutions after completion of CSAB Special Rounds. Physical reporting usually entails the verification of original documents, admission formalities, and the payment of outstanding fees at the allotted institution before the start of classes. Physical reporting is an essential procedure, and students need to fulfill all admission formalities within the specified time limit by the allotted institution.

Candidates must check the process for JoSAA counselling below:

JoSAA counseling process starts with the registration process for candidates. Candidates should log in to the JoSAA website portal using their JEE Main 2026 application number and password. After logging into the website portal, candidates will be able to select their top choice colleges and courses according to their rank and preferences.
When the choice filling procedure ends, then the result of seat allocation by JoSAA is made public. The seat allocation procedure takes into account various criteria such as the JEE ranking, category, gender, preference, etc. A candidate who gets allotted a seat should take a decision as to what he would like to do out of the following:
Once one of these options has been selected, it is necessary for the aspirant to upload all documents and go through the online reporting procedure. Seat acceptance is crucial in order to secure the allocated seat.
Document Verification and Fee Payment
These documents are checked by the concerned authorities for their verification. Any discrepancy found in them needs to be sorted out by the candidates through the JoSAA candidate portal before the stipulated deadline. After the process of verification is successfully completed, candidates need to pay their seat acceptance fees through an online mode of payment.
Reporting to the Institute
Reporting to the assigned institution is the last step of the counseling procedure. Candidates have to finish the admission procedures, participate in orientation sessions, and take classes as per the schedule announced by their institutions.
The candidate must possess the JoSAA eligibility criteria to get admission to prestigious colleges. The minimum eligibility is different for IIT and other IIITs, NITs, and other colleges. Go through the section below to know about the eligibility for other courses.

It is recommended that students try filling in maximum choices to increase their chances of getting admission in their desired institution/course. Students can change their choices any number of times until the choice filling deadline. Students can do the following things:
Choice Locking
Once all the preferences are made by the candidate, the candidate must lock these preferences. No changes can be made to the preferences once they have been locked. In case the candidate fails to lock these preferences himself, then the system will lock them.
Printing the locked choices:
After the locking process is completed, candidates can download and print the locked choices document for future reference and record-keeping.
Seat Allotment After Choice Filling
After the process of choice filling and locking is over, JoSAA takes up the process of seat allocation. Seat allocation is done by keeping in mind the rank, preference, category, and availability of seats in participating institutions. The result of the process of seat allocation is declared through the JoSAA website. Students can view their seat allocation result from their account as there is no notification system for this process via email or SMS.
In case of successful document verification online, the JoSAA releases the Provisional Seat Allotment Letter from the candidate’s portal.
