Verification of documents can be done only when the Seat Acceptance Fee is successfully paid. The Seat Acceptance Fee is to be paid in that particular round where the candidate gets the first allotment of a seat. Failure to do so within the stipulated time limit will lead to the candidate being treated as one who rejects the seat allotted to him/her.

      JoSAA 2026 Document Verification Process

Students allotted seats through JoSAA 2026 will have to upload their documents at the JoSAA website for the process of online verification. Documents required for admissions to IITs and admissions to NIT+ System (NITs/IIITs/IIEST/GFTIs) are not exactly the same.

Documents Required for Admission to NIT+ System

Candidates should upload the following documents:

      • Class 10 Mark Sheet/Certificate, Aadhaar Card, or Birth Certificate (for date of birth proof)
      • Class 12 Mark Sheet and Passing Certificate

      Responding to Document Verification Queries

While verifying the documents of candidates, officials may ask certain questions to the candidates using the JoSAA website. Candidates need to answer the queries within the stipulated time period and upload the necessary documents.

A different message will not be sent through email or SMS in any case. As such, the candidates need to log in regularly to the JoSAA website. Not answering a particular query can result in the cancellation of their allotted seat.

      Important Guidelines

      • Students should have all the authentic and original documents available before registration and appearing for counselling.
      • Documents submitted on the website are verified through the Internet and then verified physically by the concerned institution.
      • A mismatch in information and an invalid certificate may lead to denial of admission and disqualification from other counselling sessions.
      • The decision of JoSAA regarding the authenticity of documents is binding and final.

What If There Is a Discrepancy?

In case any discrepancy arises while verifying, the candidate needs to upload the modified documents within the stipulated time frame. Candidates who do not sort out any discrepancy and respond to verification queries are marked as “Not Reported,” and their reserved seat is withdrawn.

JoSAA 2026 Physical Reporting at the Allotted Institute

      For IIT Admissions

After the JoSAA counselling process is over, those students who have got a seat at an IIT will have to appear personally at the respective IIT campus for completing the procedure of admission. There might be a need for rechecking the documents again. In addition, they are required to participate in the orientation program and join the class as per the schedule released by JoSAA.
      For NIT+ System Admissions
Students allocated seats at NITs, IIITs, IIEST Shibpur, and other GFTIs are expected to join their respective institutions after completion of CSAB Special Rounds. Physical reporting usually entails the verification of original documents, admission formalities, and the payment of outstanding fees at the allotted institution before the start of classes. Physical reporting is an essential procedure, and students need to fulfill all admission formalities within the specified time limit by the allotted institution.

      JoSAA Counselling Process

Candidates must check the process for JoSAA counselling below:

      JoSAA Counselling Process 2026
      Registration and Choice Filling

JoSAA counseling process starts with the registration process for candidates. Candidates should log in to the JoSAA website portal using their JEE Main 2026 application number and password. After logging into the website portal, candidates will be able to select their top choice colleges and courses according to their rank and preferences.

      Seat Allotment and Online Reporting

When the choice filling procedure ends, then the result of seat allocation by JoSAA is made public. The seat allocation procedure takes into account various criteria such as the JEE ranking, category, gender, preference, etc. A candidate who gets allotted a seat should take a decision as to what he would like to do out of the following:

      • Freeze: Accept the allocated seat and stop participating in any further counseling rounds.
      • Float: Accept the allocated seat but still have eligibility for a higher priority seat in future counseling rounds.
      • Slide: Accept the allocated institute and try to get your preferred course at that same institute.

Once one of these options has been selected, it is necessary for the aspirant to upload all documents and go through the online reporting procedure. Seat acceptance is crucial in order to secure the allocated seat.

      Document Verification and Fee Payment
